Being a sports fan is a complex matter, in part irrational but not unworthy; a relief from the seriousness of the real world, with its unending pressures and often grave obligations.

The Intelligent Way to Tackle

By C David Price  | Submitted On January 23, 2016

By now we are all well aware of CTE and the potential dangers playing football can have on our brains. The Concussion Movie is just the latest high profile event illustrating how the effects of repeated head trauma football players can suffer. There have been several new technologies and improvements in football equipment, namely in helmets and monitored devices, that have tried to alleviate the impact blows to the head have, but few have tried to address tackling techniques until now.

The Legendary Story of LeBron James

By Sweta Maharjan  | Submitted On January 05, 2017

For the elite athlete, the brass ring of immortality and a professional sports championship- often swings just beyond his clutch. The more he abandons one, the more the public spotlights on what he hasn't refined rather than what he has. LeBron James knows all about this pitiless incongruity. For eight baffling seasons, he was the NBA's ruler without a crown. At last, in years 9 and 10, James put the championship stamp on his profession and turned into an official part of the "basketball's greatest ever" deliberate. At that point, for a reprise, he pulled off the NBA's most prominent homecoming...

Chicago Got A Starter, But Should Have Improved Its Bullpen Instead

By Doug Poe  | Submitted On August 07, 2017

The Cubs seemingly addressed their biggest concern at the trade deadline, acquiring starting pitcher Jose Quintana from the cross town rival White Sox. The lefthander had an immediate impact on the defending World Series champions, as he dominated in his first two starts and Chicago surpassed the Milwaukee Brewers to gain first place.
In all likelihood, the Cubs will remain at the top of the National League Central Division. Advancing into the post season, however, might be more problematic, since Chicago General Manager Theo Epstein neglected to address what might end up being its Achilles heel.

How the Chicago Blackhawks Breed a Culture of Winning

By Prateek K Maitra | Submitted On March 23, 2013

The idea that the Blackhawks are the best team in the NHL is no secret. Breaking the team down to figure out why they are so good is a fascinating project. The first look at the statistics helps to lay the foundation for the reasoning behind the success of the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks rank second in the NHL in goals against per game with 2.03. This means that their goaltender, Corey Crawford, is keeping a lot of pucks out of the net. Ray Emery is also a solid backup goaltender when Crawford needs a break. Having a backup goaltender like Emery is a real luxury for a team to have.

Why US Men's Soccer Is Yet to Build an International Competitive Team

By Carlos Madrigal  | Submitted On April 05, 2017

An argument could be made that the United States has produced the best male athletes the sports world has ever seen. From Michael Jordan to Michael Phelps and Tiger Woods to Muhammad Ali, the U.S. has produced top athletes in almost every sport that has ever been played. There seems to be just one sport that Americans have never been able to dominate: the biggest sport in the world, soccer. In the men's category, the US has won a gold medal or world championship competition for every major sport including basketball, hockey, baseball, tennis, golf, swimming, boxing, gymnastics among others and they have dominated the Olympic medal count in almost every edition of the Olympics. Apart from all of this, the biggest and most important sports leagues in the world are in the US including the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and PGA Tour.

Professional Golf League: Current State Of Golf Needs An Update

By Bob M Thomas Jr  | Submitted On September 24, 2014

If you ask most people who are into sports how athletes become professionals, the vast majority will be able to tell you. Whether its baseball, basketball, hockey, football, or soccer, the path to becoming a pro can be through the pro draft or free agency. That is, a professional team can select you while you are still in college, just graduated from high school, or, in some cases, as just a walk-on. In either case, there is little or no money that the individual has to put out other than the money needed to travel to the try-out facility or draft location. But what about professional golf? I'm not sure many people realize that it costs thousands of personal dollars to become a professional golfer. In fact, golf is the only sport where you have to pay to become a professional.

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. ~ Michael Jordan
